Description: Beautiful high-grade example of Hall of Famer ARKY VAUGHN from the 1941 Play Ball paper variation series. The Play Ball Paper Version baseball card set was released in 1941. The set consisted of 24 baseball cards.. The 1941 Play Ball paper set was issued in uncut sheets of twelve cards per sheet. The cards are identical in all respects to the regular 1941 Play Ball cards but are printed on paper-thin stock. Originally sold for a penny a sheet, they were intended to be hand-cut into individual cards by youngsters. Play Ball issued cards in this manner for a very brief time, as an experiment in response to the scarcity of paper supplies during WWII. The need to conserve scarce resources such as paper during the war soon resulted in Gum, Inc., ceasing card production during the balance of the war years. The offered card is perfectly clean both front and back, neatly hand-cut, extremely well centered, with a crisp, bold image. An exceptionally attractive high-grade example.. PLEASE NOTE: The sheet seen in the above photos is the exact sheet these cards were cut from...These were taken to a local printer and were hand cut with surgical precision...I am listing all 12 cards from this sheet individually, and all are in exceptional, high grade condition.. As an added note, both the Williams and Mel Ott card shown in PSA holders are being attached to show that PSA actually does grade these hand-cut versions...EXCEEDINGLY SCARCE
