The Singing Association was founded in 1839 in the student community in Copenhagen, and with close ties to other Nordic student singing associations. A living choir with a strong tradition. The singing association quickly gained a permanent connection to the University of Copenhagen, and since 1869 the singing association has participated in the University's official events. Countless students and graduates listen every year to the Student Singing Association in the University's ballroom, at, among other things, the Annual Party, matriculation, doctor promises, PhD appointments. The choir has been associated with the Royal House for almost its entire life, and sings at royal anniversaries. Most recently at Fredensborg Castle in April 2015 on HM Queen Margrethe II's 75th birthday. HM The Queen and HRH The Prince Consort are both honorary members of the Student Singing Association.
