Roosevelt’s first win, in 1932 against Herbert Hoover or his 1936 re-election campaign against Alf Landon, or his 1940 re-reelection run against Wendell Willkie. Or, it may have been from his last, re-re-reelection, defeating Thomas E. Dewey in 1944. The button has no words on it but judging from the portrait it was probably for one of the earlier elections. Face: Red, white and blue. • Franklin Delano Roosevelt will probably always be the only man to ever be elected to a third term as President, and a then again to a fourth term. The most important single person of the 20th Century, Franklin Roosevelt came to the Presidency when the nation was in the grips of the "Great Depression." While Roosevelt did not have all the answers, he did have the knowledge to know he had to do something to get the country moving again and he did that with the "New Deal." As his Presidency progressed, he saw and understood the growing threat from Hitler and he knew how serious it was. He also knew he had to awaken America to the danger and he knew America didn’t want to wake up. By his deft handling of the situation, helping the Allies when he could, confronting the dictators when he could, he got America ready enough to win World War II. Reverse: The pin is still solid and strong. The "Pinback": A choice button, it looks like it may have been worn a few times. With four Presidential campaigns, Franklin Roosevelt buttons are a difficult and quite varied collection. This one will be sent in a padded envelope for protection.
