Grillo's winning automotive street designs for Miami, FL Automotive Street Designs Which Won Thousand Dollar Prize in First National Contest To Be Held in America: S. Grillo, architect, of New York City, won a prize of one thousand dollars for these designs of traffic signal observation towers and standards, and steel lighting standards, which was initiated by the Biscayne Boulevard Association, Miami, Florida, and held under the supervision of noted architects. All designs were submitted anonymously in what is believed to be the first competition for unified street architecture in America. It is expected the contest will establish new standards for harmonizing the architectural beauty and unity in the automotive accessories used for the expedition, service and direction of traffic. The signs will be used on Miami's magnificent new Biscayne Bay Boulevard which skirts Biscayne Bay for three and one half miles. Photo measures 10.25 x 8.25 inches. Photo Is dated 1926.
