1917-1919 Large Lot of WW1 Era Iowa Newspapers - Entering WW1 to Returning Home

Description: Rare opportunity to own a great and interesting piece of Marengo, Iowa County, Iowa and US history. This a large lot of 44 newspapers covering the period of July 1917 to Sept 1919 and there are many articles on WW1, the Spanish flu, signing of the Treaty of Versailles, Prohibition comes into effect, women are granted the right to vote, troops sent to WW1 and troops returning, the forming of the League of Nations is discussed and much more. This isn't just a small paper reporting on local events but there are plenty of articles covering national and world events including several published lists of Iowa county drafted soldiers with their names. So very likely if your WW1 veteran grandfather or great grandfather was from Iowa county, his name should be listed in here. There is also several articles on the local nurses who served too. Very cool feature - each newspaper folds out to being one large, uncut, 40" x 52" poster-like sheet of paper so each can be one very large display piece (see pictures). This newspaper publisher seems to have had a few name changes during this period but it is the same newspaper company and was a weekly publication. I have 8 papers from 1917; 27 from 1918 and 9 from 1919 including a 2-part victory edition. All have great vintage advertising too - Fordson tractors, Buicks, Studebakers, Velvet tobacco and more. Condition - considering these are newspapers and being made of some of the cheapest paper material, definitely don't expect perfection. BUT, considering the above, you should be quite impressed with most of these papers. Many have tears, stains here and there, some corners are missing, some flaking and obvious creases and crinkles. 98% of the articles are completely legible. These newspaper articles provide quite the leap back into one of the most pivotal points in American and world history all from the perspective of a small town in Iowa. You'll be very satisfied with the content.
