Rose campaign signs on Caswell Block in Milwaukee This is an original press photo. "When it came to campaigning, Dave Rose was no shrinking violet," comments H. Russell Austin of The Milwaukee Journal in his book "The Milwaukee Story." And that's no exaggeration! Rose was a candidate for mayor of Milwaukee in seven elections and won all but two. During the 1908 campaign the Caswell Block was plastered with campaign posters on which Rose's name was most prominent. His opponents in the race were T.J. Pringle, Republican, and Emil Seidel, Social Democrat. During the primary, Rose did not address mass meetings, but worked silently through his ward clubs, according to a Milwaukee Journal report.
