Description: WELCOME FOLKS Offering a Rare piece of World's Fair, Exposition History. Made of brass, with cobalt blue enameling, circling the inner three dimensional scene, depicting a map of the Americas over the world globe, and two women shaped like like North and South America, holding hands, signifying unity. This is a Uniform button made in 1900 by C.C. Penfold,Buffalo, N.Y. For the 1901 Pan-Am, Pan American Exposition. This would have been used only on uniforms of people that worked the Expo. Not made as a souvenir for the public. Finding these buttons is tough. Generally would be left on the uniform jacket. This is the Fair, where President McKinley was assassinated. The fair itself was created to recognize the independence and the growth of Nations of the Western Hemisphere. It also was a celebration for the technological advances that were accomplished in the 19th century. So it holds a lot of our history. Measures 7/8" diameter Beautiful Condition! Of course the brass is tarnished. We usually don't polish historic items. Always best to leave alone. Our photo shows well.
