Description: BEFORE YOU BID Please READ THE FULL ITEM DESCRIPTION and make sure you agree to the terms below***YOU ARE BIDDING ON VINTAGE TRADITIONAL AMERICANA2 FEDERAL PERIOD STYLE BULLSEYE BRONZE-CLAD MIRRORS Ca. 1900-1930sSize: 9"h x 6-1/4"w x 3/4"d (1-1/4"d protruding eagles head)Weight: 13.4 oz. each- STANDS NOT INCLUDED - .*** DESCRIPTION & CONDITIONThis auction is for two beautiful vintage miniature bronze-clad Federal period style decor bullseye convex mirrors with the 13 original colonies dots and a rare version of the eagle facing forward. There are no makers marks, therefore exact age and maker cannot be confirmed. In some cases, manufacturers placed a makers label on the backside instead of engraving it. This may be what was present on these and due to age and handling, they are now lost.Federal period bullseye mirrors have been reproduced in various sizes with slight design variations for generations.According to experts, bullseye mirrors first became popular in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. The style was called ‘regency’ in England, and ‘empire’ in France, both of which were relatively similar, and the American ‘Federal’ style evolved directly from these. It varied mostly with its emphasis on patriotic symbols, such as an eagle at the top, and thirteen balls, feathers or stars around the frame to represent the thirteen original colonies to break free of the British Empire in the American Revolution from 1775-1783.Bullseye mirrors were popular in England and America in the 18th century. They are generally referred to as ‘Federal mirrors’, thus indicating they were most popular between 1789 and 1801.Original federal mirrors are carved of wood and gilded with gold leaf. As early as the 19th century, replicas have been produced and are considered collectible in their own right but again, not originals. These two 9" bronze-clad mirrors are estimated to have been manufactured ca. 1900-1930s by one of several companies in business when bronze-clad decorative objects were very popular. Companies were hard hit by the Great Depression and were out of business by the mid 1930s. These items are rare and hard to find in pairs, size and particular design. Please do your own research! THESE TWO ITEMS ARE IN OVERALL EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH TYPICAL AGE RELATED PATINA TO THE METAL AND GLASS. That said, do to age and possibly moisture, the glass mirrors are foggy and do not reflect image clearly as you see in the photos. One is missing it's felt backing. This can be easily replaced. As is, these little decorative mirrors are very charming and will look great over a fireplace, home library or in any Americana Federal period collection. Please look over photos as they are part of description and ask all questions before bidding. * Frame Stand Not Included * !! READ THIS IMPORTANT NOTICE BELOW !!
