Description: I am a retired collector and am selling my extras to remain active in my retirement years. Here is a collection of Taxpaid Revenue stamps that I built over several years. They are mounted on custom 11X17 pages that I created and printed on 14 pages of good card stock. They are housed in a 11X17 binder. The stamps are mounted in clear mounts. The binder cover also consists of actual stamps mounted on card stock and inserted into the front of the binder (I have a similar collection of revenues listed that are housed in a similar binder showing the same stamps on the cover but that binder contains a high quality copy of the stamps on the cover of this binder. This binder cover contains the actual stamps). There are over 100 stamps in this collection not including the ones on the cover. The group includes Cigar Stamps, Customs Stamps, Beer Stamps, Tobacco and Tobacco Tinfoil Stamps, Tobacco Strips, Snuff Stamps, the first Tobacco and Small Cigars stamps, Consular Fee Stamps and Oleomargarine Stamps. The binder cover includes a Lock Seal, Fermented Fruit Juice, Distilled Spirits Stamps and a couple of Revenue Multiples among other stamps. With a few exceptions these stamps are not listed in Scott’s Catalog. They ARE listed in Springer’s Handbook of North American Cinderella Stamps including Taxpaid Revenues. Springer updated his catalog for several years but the last upgrade was the Tenth Edition in 1985 - over 30 years ago. Some of these stamps are listed in the 10th edition and others are listed in the 9th edition. I purchased the bulk of these Taxpaid Stamps from reputable National Dealers who advertise in Scott’s Catalog and paid between $100 to $300 for over a dozen of them. It is a nice collection with a lot of value to it. Listing limitations only allow me to show 12 photos so I’ve shown the most complete pages which are primarily the early years from 1863-1900. Here is a list of some, but not all of the stamps in this collection using Springers numbering. The Tinfoil taxpaid prefixes I purchased were listed as “TF” numbers but Springer references them as “TJ” prefixes. One note of interest is that while it’s been well publicized that live presidents are not pictured on postage stamps that apparently did not apply to Taxpaid revenues as a couple of the stamps depict U.S. Grant in the years between 1867 and 1874 - not just during the living years of Grant but also during the years he served as President. Of course this was particularly fitting as Grant was famously know for his Cigar Smoking habit - a habit he did not pick up until the Battle of the Wilderness when it was reported that he smoked a cigar and whittled while the battle waged. Admirers then flooded him with gifts of cigars - thus creating and feeding a habit that ultimately claimed his life via throat cancer.
