Thomas Read Kemp (23 December 1782 – 20 December 1844) was an English property developer and politician. A view from Kemptown towards Brighton, showing The Royal Suspension Chain Pier, the first major pier built in Brighton, England. Opened on 25 November 1823, it was destroyed during a storm on 4 December 1896. It consists of Arundel Terrace, Lewes Crescent, Sussex Square, Chichester Terrace, and the Kemp Town Enclosures (the gardens). The estate was conceived and financed by Thomas Read Kemp, designed by Charles Busby and Amon Henry Wilds, and constructed by Thomas Cubitt. Work began in 1823 and it was completed in 1855.
