It is a popular Chinese war novel, rivaling "Romance of the Three Kingdoms." The author is “Kyokutei Bakin/曲亭馬琴,” who is considered Japan's first professional writer. He is famous for works like "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden/南総里見八犬伝." The illustrations were done by “Kitao Shigemasa/北尾重政,” the founder of the Kitao school. He was skilled in portraits of beauties, actor prints, and landscapes. His work greatly influenced later ukiyo-e artists. On the last page, there is a note that says, "Received from the young lord of ‘Sakai Tadayuki/酒井忠進,’ the Kyoto Deputy in 1809." This indicates that the book was a gift from a person of high status.
