Description: This auction is for : An Introduction to Astronomy in a series of letters from a preceptor to his pupil, In which the most useful and interesting parts of the science are clearly and familiarly explained , illustrated with copper plates by John Bonnycastle of the Royal Military Academy , Woolwich. the fourth edition corrected and improved published in London and printed for J Johnson 1803. Original leather binding with wear to the corners and hinge starting to crack to the front board, label still present to the flat spine , some leather missing to the back board please see photos. Small inscription to the first end paper in a neat hand, Frontispiece present, + Title Page (previous owners name of William Whitehead Thornton to the top of the title page. + vi + 2pp contents + 443pp + 1pp directions to the binder + 1pp ( Mr Bonnycastle details for course of instruction) + 1pp "published by the same author" + 19 plates (16 of which are folding ) as called for . Binding is well used and holding together well, plates and pages are in good order with odd marks only. No actual foxing present.
